I have been involved with training of law enforcement officers for over sixteen years. I have taken
numerous class from instructors with whom I have a great deal of respect. In the past year and a
half I had the opportunity to train with Jack Furr and two of his partners in crime, Gene Helms and
Bill McLennan, during three classes.
Jack’s classes are some of the most demanding, well thought out and up to date that I have ever
taken. The information he presents is timely to today threats.
Jack is aggressive in both weapon manipulation and intellectual decision making on the proper
responses to those threats.
He will have you rethink the way you approach situations, be it police, military or just the everyday
citizen that refuses to be a victim.

Professional Small Arms and Tactics Training
Recently, in Amarillo, Tx. I attended Defensive Handgun 1 class taught by Firebase
instruction was more than adequate for my needs and I appreciated being treated equal to the
men and law enforcement in the class. We learned safe gun handling, loading and unloading
the pistol, shooting while moving, communicating with the threat and with my partner and
much, much more.
The instructors made learning fun and easy to understand. When the class was over I felt
empowered by the knowledge and skills acquired. It is exciting to know that I can be in control
of my own safety and my environment. I highly recommend this class to anyone who is
interested in personal safety and who desires to own a handgun. This training is especially
beneficial to women who do not want to be a victim.

It has been several weeks since I attended the Firebase Academy class you held here in
Amarillo, Texas. Reflecting back on the class and on you as an instructor, I felt it was time to
share some thoughts. I had been looking at several different locations and opportunities that
are available to the civilian who wants to enhance their abilities with firearms. It was a true
blessing that you and your class came to Amarillo. The class was run smoothly, professionally,
and timely. Your real life experiences mixed with your humor and knowledge made this the
most satisfying firearm related event I have ever attended. Knowing that my own level of
proficiency was well below an acceptable level in my estimation only facilitated my hunger for
solid, fundamental instruction and practice. I was not disappointed! This is a class and an
instructor every handgun owner in America should have the privilege of attending. Jack Furr is
a warrior more than willing to teach if you are willing to learn. No matter what skill level you are
at or who you are, Jack Furr can help you. Personally, my skills improved dramatically, in
measures of magnitude. Am I well pleased? You better believe it! Am I done? In no way. I am
ready to continue on to class 2 and in the meantime I will continue to practice and practice
some more.
Jack, thanks again for a terrific time! I am still remembering to keep that thumb on top of the
safety! By the way, I took seriously what you said about brining a rifle to a gun fight and I just
purchased a new DPMS carbine. Problem is, with wanting the precision rifle, pistol 2, and the
carbine class I have a little dilemma. Which one next! Thanks again, hope to see you soon.

time before I wrote you, as I (like others) can be very enamored with instruction immediately
following the class, but find that enthusiasm waning over time. I just wanted to pass on that after
this much time, I am still greatly enthused with what you taught us at the defensive pistol class. I
learned valuable skills that I know I can rely on if ever forced to use my pistol in a defensive
situation. Not being one to offer much praise, I will vary from the norm and comment that I thought
you did an excellent job with the class and me in particular. It was an outstanding class and I
want to thank you and your fellow instructors for a job well done. I pass on my kudos to Jay
Oakley for putting it all together for us. Again, thanks for the instruction and do not hesitate to
have anyone contact me as a reference!
